Indy Dance Festival

Working with the Indy Dance Council has been a wonderful experience. Mariel and I go quite a ways back. When she came to Dance Kaleidoscope we got to know her a bit closer than others because she was roommates with Josie’s sister Jackie who was also a dancer with them. Many years have passed since she visited our first studio on Guion Rd, and we’ve had the priviledge of photographing her many times both in studio and on stage. We even photographed her wedding and family portraits now. After the pandemic we had basically lost everything except our images and home, we were restarting again and I got a call from Mariel about her idea to start the Council and help dancers from all around find ways to connect and synergize their passion for dance. “Would we be willing to help with photos?” she asked. I love photographing the dancers so it was an easy yes. Since then, I’ve met so many dancers outside of the companies and schools because of her ambition. This is the second year we’ve been photographing for the council and I can only say that I am so grateful that she invited us. It has been a pleasure watching the idea go from seed to fruit. Thank you Mariel and Sarah for all the hard work that goes unnoticed for the sake of your passion and love of dance!
